Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reconstruct the appearance of the vagina, and tighten the vaginal walls.
Childbirth and ageing can stretch the vagina and weaken the muscles. This reduces the tone and strength in the vagina, which may lead to less pleasurable sex for both partners, painful intercourse, and urinary incontinence.
Many women choose to undergo vaginoplasty to improve sexual stimulation, correct birthmarks, and improve the aesthetical appearance of the vagina.
Vaginoplasty also involves vaginal entry and narrowing of the vaginal canal. The labia majora are filled, and the labia minora are made smaller, to aesthetically enhance the appearance of the vagina.
Some patients complain of urinary incontinence. In such cases, surgical correction is made to the anterior and posterior wall of the vagina.
Vaginoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia and lasts up to 1 hour. There is no visible mark on the area after the procedure. A narrowing of the vagina is also removed from the posterior wall of the vagina. There is no need to remove the stitches when the lining is sewn.
Postoperative care
Hospitalisation of several hours is required after your procedure, where you will be monitored. You will be able to leave the same day on foot.
Personal hygiene is important. It is important to follow the doctor’s recommendations on hygiene.
You may return to work and daily activities after 2 days. Strenuous physical activities should be avoided for a few months.
The area must be kept dry for a few days after the procedure. Bathing should be avoided.
Sexual intercourse should be avoided 4-5 weeks.
After the operation, you may experience mild swelling, pain and spotting. This will begin to disappear after a few days.
The surgery does not interfere with childbirth. However, the vagina may become enlarged after childbirth.
